YMCA contest offers rewards for fitness activities

Parkview Huntington Family YMCA is currently taking registrations for its "Quest for Fitness" contest, which will run from Jan. 25 through March 20.

The contest is similar to a weight-loss contest but participants will rewarded for their efforts, not results alone.

Points will be given for improvement in weight loss, body fat loss percentage, body mass index, blood pressure, resting heart rate and waist measurements.
Participants will also earn points each time they visit the Y, join a fitness class or personal training or attend free nutrition presentations.

The person with the highest weight loss may not be the winner, as there are many other ways to earn points.
Prizes include six-month and three-month YMCA memberships, one personal training session, one fitness class, one meal from Subway, a water bottle, one YMCA T-shirt and one YMCA duffle bag.

There is a fee to join the contest, which includes two fitness assessments, two nutrition presentations and sample workouts. Each participant will have his or her daily caloric needs figures.

The contest is open to both members and non-members, with a 50 percent discount for members.

Registration can be done in person at the YMCA or online at www.huntingtony.org.
