Salamonie, Mississinewa reservoirs seek volunteers for clean-up Aug. 29

Salamonie and Mississinewa reservoirs are looking for volunteers to help with clean-up on Saturday, Aug. 29.

In addition, a cleanup day will be held at the Salamonie Interpretive Center on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Volunteers at Salamonie and Mississinewa on Aug. 29 will clean trails and roadsides of debris left by the summer floods. Salamonie Reservoir volunteers should meet at the Salamonie Interpretive Center at 9 a.m., and Mississinewa volunteers can meet either at the main office at Miami State Recreation Area at 9 a.m. or at Pearson’s Mill, near Somerset, at 9:30 a.m.

Volunteers should bring work gloves, garden rakes, scoop shovels, insect repellent, sunscreen, wide brim hats, closed-toe shoes, a water bottle and lunch. Volunteers should not bring chainsaws.

Volunteers at the Salamonie Interpretive Center on Sept. 9 can work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They can do indoor work or outdoor work, messy work, clean work, phone work or desk work.

Interpretive Center volunteers should bring a sack lunch and a drink and, if they plan to work outdoors, gloves, leaf or garden rakes, scoop shovels and closed-toe shoes.
