Civil Air Patrol heads up emergency training

Several organizations from Huntington County participated in a training exercise coordinated by the Indiana Wing Civil Air Patrol Aug. 22 and 23.

Participants trained for emergencies that may occur in Indiana, coordinating both ground crews and aircrews to simulate disaster relief, missing persons and missing aircraft missions.

Local participants included the Huntington County Emergency Management Agency, the Salvation Army and the Huntington Municipal Airport.

“Huntington County EMA was happy to attend and collaborate during the full-scale exercise,” says EMA Director Lindsie Goss.

“Our agency learned a lot about robustness of the Civil Air Patrol communication methods along with their search and rescue capabilities. This experience allowed us to understand how we may be able to help each other and overcome challenges together during future emergencies.”

More than 60 volunteer members of the Civil Air Patrol, including cadets, were involved in the training exercise. Adults and cadets ran communications systems, participated as ground crews and also assisted command staff. Adult members were trained in positions such as pilots, observers, ground crew and incident command.
