The Joseph Decuis Farmstead Inn, owned by Pete and Alice Eschelman, is one of five locations on the Tri Kappa Housewalk on Sunday, Oct. 4.

The Farmstead Inn, located at 6755E-900S, Columbia City, features a restored farm house and carriage house.

The farm house, built in 1884 by Oliver Smith, has maintained its historical integrity even with the addition of the comforts of modern living.

The kitchen is the original from 1884. A wood stove, dry sink, original hardwood floors and moldings are featured as well as period antiques.

The formal dining room has a custom dining room table, transoms with the original painting displayed on the glass and a Parson’s cabinet. The moldings and the hardwood floor are also the original wood.

The master bedroom and private bathroom are just off the dining room. Two other bedrooms and private baths are located up stairs. All are outfitted with period antiques.

The sitting room was built in the 1950s. Overhead beams, paneled ceiling, brick walls and wood stove create a warm cozy atmosphere. A reproduction painting of the homesteaders is also featured in this room.

Down the stairs are the wine cellar and root cellar, which now serves as a massage treatment room.

The carriage house is home to the Decuis Suite, which includes a private living room with wood burning stove and a kitchen.

Upstairs is the loft, an open room available for meetings and receptions, with panoramic views of the farm.

The first floor Garden Suites offer two separate bedrooms with their own bathrooms and a private screened-in porch.

Parking is located across the street from the farm house.

The Tri Kappa Housewalk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The remaining four locations on the housewalk are the Purviance House Bed and Breakfast, 326 S. Jefferson St., Huntington; the home of Tom and Kathy Steinmetz, 601 Brittania Court, Huntington; the home of Liz and Marshall Sanders, 3886W-608N, Huntington; and the Joseph Decuis Inn, 492 N. Main St., Roanoke.

The Kappa Konfections Shoppe, where baked goods will be available for a donation, will be located at the Sanders home.
Discounted tickets for the housewalk will be available through Saturday, Oct. 3, at Dorothy’s Hallmark, in Huntington, and The Emporium, Moose & Mollie’s and Paper Moon, all in Roanoke, or by calling Kris Bickel at 530-6456. Full price tickets can be purchased the day of the event at any of the locations on the housewalk.
