Voter reg. deadline for upcoming election is Oct. 5

Voters who plan to take part in the Nov. 3 general election have until Monday, Oct. 5, to register for the first time or to update a current registration.

Voters must update their registration if they have moved, changed their name or been removed from the list of eligible voters. Voters can check their registration status online at www.indianavoters.com or by calling the voter registration office at 358-4820.

New registrations and registration updates will be accepted in the Huntington County clerk’s office through the end of the business day on Oct. 5.

The clerk’s office is located on the second floor of the Huntington County Courthouse and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

New voter registrations and registration updates are also accepted online at www.indianavoters.com. The deadline to submit an online application is Oct. 5 at 11:59 p.m.

To be eligible to vote this fall, voters must be a citizen of the United States and be at least 18 years old by the date of the general election. Voters may cast ballots only for the offices affecting the district where they live.

Early voting will start Oct. 13 at the county clerk’s office in the courthouse, and additional locations for early voting will be added throughout the month. Any Huntington County voter can vote at any of the early voting sites. They will also be able to vote at any polling location in Huntington County on Election Day.
Early voting will take place at three locations:

• At the county clerk’s office, voting will take place Oct. 13 through Oct. 30, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ballots can also be cast at the clerk’s office on two Saturdays, Oct. 24 and 31, from 8 a.m. to noon; and on Monday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon.

• The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA, located at 1160W-500N, Huntington, will also serve as an early voting site beginning on Oct. 28.

Polls will be open at the YMCA on Oct. 28, 29 and 30 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• The third early voting site is Heritage Hall at the Huntington County Fairgrounds.

Heritage Hall will be open to voters Oct. 28, 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This fall’s ballot includes races in Huntington, Markle and Andrews.

Candidates in Huntington who are running for mayor are incumbent Republican Brooks Fetters and independent Johnnie M. Hiles.

For the Common Council, incumbent Democrat Bill Oswalt, Republican Richard Strick and independent Scott A. Thornsberry are seeking the third district seat. Incumbent Republican Jack Slusser, Republican Seth Marshall and Democrat Robert W. Miller are running for the two at-large seats on Common Council.

In Andrews, Republican Laura Dillon and Democrat Ray Tackett are running for clerk-treasurer.

Candidates for the three town council seats are Republicans John Harshbarger, Gary Rice and Bonnie L. Walker; Democrat Bill Johnson; and independents Ted Grover and Joshua H. Young. Harshbarger is the only incumbent on the ballot.

Cheryl Ann Hardin and Carolyn Lane-Hamilton, both independents, are seeking the clerk-treasurer’s post in Markle.

Candidates for the two town council seats are Democrat Larry Jenks and independents Mark Hamilton and Jeff Humbarger. Hamilton and Humbarger are incumbents.
