Two local county election officials were honored with prestigious awards during a statewide conference.
Huntington County Clerk Kittie Keiffer received the Election Administrator of the Year award from the Indiana Election Division and the Indiana Secretary of State’s office.
Voter Registration and Election Deputy Pam Fowler received the Voter Registration Employee of the Year award.
County election officials from around the state attended the Indiana Election Administrators Conference in Indianapolis to prepare for the 2016 election cycle. More than 350 election officials from across Indiana attended the conference on Dec. 15 and 16. The conference educated participants on changes to state and federal election law to prepare them for the upcoming elections.
Attending the meeting were county clerks, voter registration officials and election board members from all 92 Indiana counties.
Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson and the Indiana Election Division co-directors presented at the conference. They discussed the upcoming presidential election, absentee voting issues and general best practices. There were also several sessions for new county clerks to help prepare them for their new role.
The conference also gave election officials from around the state an opportunity to honor top election administrators who exemplified excellence in 2015 and throughout their careers. Other award winners this year include:
• Lifetime Achievement: Marjorie Cullison, Greene County.
• County Election Board Member of the Year: Michael Brown, Lake County.
• County Election Employees of the Year: Tricia Milholland, Blackford County and Janet Double, Wells County.
The Indiana Election Administrators Conference is held in Indianapolis near the end of each year preceding a general or municipal election.
