Common council allows vacation of Etna alley

The vacation of an alley behind an Etna Avenue convenience store will allow the construction of a fence.

Members of the Huntington Common Council approved the alley vacation during their meeting on Tuesday, April 26, suspending the rules and giving the request both required approvals during one meeting.

The vacation applies to a portion of an alley that runs parallel to Etna Avenue at The Trading Post,  904 Etna Ave., and directly behind a lot where a house was recently demolished. It connects with a previously vacated portion of the alley to the south; the portion of the alley to the north will remain active.

Bryn Keplinger, the city’s director of community development and redevelopment, explained that the need for the alley vacation was brought to light when Johnson Petroleum, owner of The Trading Post, requested a permit for the fence.

Keplinger said his office received no remonstrances to the alley vacation. No one spoke for or against the vacation during a public hearing held during the April 26 council meeting.
