Andrews library one step closer to modernizing construction

The Andrews/Dallas Township Public Library is one step closer to a modernizing construction project, thanks to a resolution passed by the Andrews Town Council on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

The resolution places ownership of the land on which the library sits back into the hands of the Andrews Library Board. When the library was constructed, it was owned by the Andrews Library Club, but when the facility became tax-supported, the deed to the property was transferred to the Town of Andrews.

The library board recently discovered that the deed to the property was in the town's name after looking into the process for applying for a Community Focus Grant to help pay for improvements to the library, which are to include a new handicap-accessible entrance, new restrooms and additional space for shelving.

Now that the deed to the property has been transferred back to the library board, the project can move forward."We're in the process of interviewing architects, who will then be working with the library board for a design," said Nancy Disbro, Andrews Library director.

After the design work is complete, the library board will work with the selected architect to develop a project cost, after which the library can apply for grant money by this fall.

"I will be thrilled if construction can begin in 2011," Disbro said.
