Andrews again trying for OCRA grant for upgrades

The Andrews Town Council is hoping to have better luck the second time around in pursuing a grant from the state’s Office of Community and Rural Affairs that would help fund upgrades to the town’s wastewater treatment plant.

Earlier this year, the board applied for an OCRA planning grant, but found out in July that Andrews would not be among the recipients for one.

All was not lost, however, with OCRA disbursing more grant money in October. To be in the running for some of those funds, council held a public hearing on Thursday, Aug. 18, where it drafted a letter to OCRA, applying for a grant once more.

The grant council applied for amounts to $600,000.

Andrews Clerk-Treasurer Laura Dillon speculated that the board might not find out until November if its second application has been approved.
