14th annual Scarecrow Fest Oct. 28

Scarecrows will take up residence in Warren for the 14th annual Scarecrow Festival on Friday, Oct. 28.

The evening will also include a chili contest, games and a costume parade.

Festivities open with the costume parade at 6 p.m., with participants — in family-friendly costumes only — meeting at the corner of 3rd and Wayne streets.

Judging will take place at 2nd and Wayne streets immediately after the parade.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., visitors can participate in a variety of activities sponsored by local businesses and organizations. In addition to the games, the evening also includes hayrides, a pumpkin patch and story time. Several of the activities are free.

The chili contest will take place throughout the evening, with winners announced Friday at 7:30 p.m. Entries in that contest will be accepted through Wednesday, Oct. 26, by calling 375-2656.

Entries in the scare crow contest will be on display around town starting Wednesday, Oct. 26, and judging will take place that evening. Winners will be announced on Friday at 7:30 p.m. during the festival.

In the event of heavy rain, the Scarecrow Festival will take place at the Knight Bergman Center.

The celebration in Warren continues on Saturday with the 5K Spook-A-Thon and one-mile children’s run at Warren Health & Fitness, 1111 Huntington Ave., Warren, and Pumpkin Palooza at First Baptist Church, 727 N. Wayne St., Warren.

The Spook-A-Thon starts at 8:30 a.m., with check-in at 8 a.m. at Warren Health & Fitness. The children’s event starts at 9:30 a.m., with check-in at 9 a.m.

Pumpkin Palooza is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes pumpkin decorating, kids’ activities and a soup luncheon. All activities and lunch are free.
