Food drive at Huntington University will benefit Community Harvest Bank

Huntington University is participating in a student-led food drive, U Can Crush Hunger, along with several other universities in Indiana through Nov. 4.

The Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, which distributed nearly 13 million pounds of food to more than 90,000 people last year, is sponsoring the drive.

Participating universities are Huntington University, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Indiana Tech, Ivy Tech Community College and University of Saint Francis. The collective goal is to collect 50,000 pounds of food, and HU has an individual goal of 10,000 pounds. The food that is collected at HU will remain in Huntington County.

Collection barrels have been placed around Huntington University’s campus for donations from the community. Canned food will also be collected at a women’s scrimmage on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. and the school’s Olympiad event. Suggested donations are peanut butter, canned meat, canned tuna, canned vegetables and canned fruit, but all donations are welcome.

Cash gifts are also accepted, with each dollar donated counted as four pounds or four cans of food. To donate, visit the Community Harvest Food Bank webpage at www. chfb.org, click on the U Can Crush Hunger logo and select Huntington University.
