Huntington's every-other-week trash collection begins this month.

The Huntington Street Department will collect trash the first full week of the month and the third week of each month. A week that begins on a Sunday or a Monday is considered a full week.

The specific day on which a resident's trash is picked up will not change.

Cardboard should be broken town and tied or bundled, and tree limbs and branches must be broken into four-foot lengths and tied or placed in paper lawn and leaf bags.
Trash cans and bags can be no larger than 33 gallons and weigh no more than 50 pounds.

Trash pickup weeks in 2010 are: March - Weeks of March 1 and March 15.

April - Weeks of April 5 and April 19.

May - Weeks of May 3 and May 17.

June - Weeks of June 7 and June 21.

July - Weeks of July 5 and July 19.

August - Weeks of Aug. 2 and Aug. 16.

September - Weeks of Sept. 5 and Sept. 20.

October - Weeks of Oct. 4 and Oct. 18.

November - Weeks of Nov 1 and Nov. 15.

December - Weeks of Dec. 6 and Dec. 20.

The reduction in frequency from once a week was instituted by Mayor Steve Updike as a cost-cutting measure.
