Volunteers can get involved in river cleanup in Warren on Earth Day

Volunteers are needed to help clean up the banks of the Salamonie River, in Warren, on Earth Day, April 22.

The cleanup is being led by Warren Health and Fitness and Mike Haggerty, who says the project is designed to beautify the entrance to Warren from the south.

The river will also play a large role in events to be sponsored by Warren Health and Fitness during this summer’s Salamonie Summer Festival.

The volunteers will burn brush and pick up trash along a section of the Salamonie River near Salamonie Mills. The cleanup will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers are asked to call Warren Health and Fitness at 375-4840 to register and for additional details.

The river cleanup will precede a benefit dinner to raise funds for the Salamonie Summer Festival.

The dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 125 S. Nancy St., in Warren, the former light plant building.

The evening will also include live music by the Mountain Dewe Boys and a live auction, conducted by Ness Bros., from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sponsors for the benefit dinner include Coca-Cola, Subway, Kim’s Katered Affair and Ness Bros.

Tickets for the benefit dinner are available at Warren Health and Fitness or on the Warren Health and Fitness Facebook page.

Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Club Warren site.
