Helping out

Photo provided.

Representatives of American Legion Post 160, in Roanoke, present a check for $15,000 — proceeds from a dinner, trivia contest and silent auction held March 18 at the post — to 10-month-old Sophia Sterling and her parents, Steve and Megan Sterling (right). Legion representatives are (from left) Pete Smith, Post 160 commander; Connie Hess, Post 160 chaplain; and Brad Dinius, Sons of the American Legion treasurer. Sophia is being treated for kidney cancer, and the Roanoke American Legion joined with friends and family members to raise money for the family’s travel and medical expenses.
