At the request of Huntington County Community School Board of Trustees President Kevin Patrick, the board unanimously approved a reduction of their compensation during their meeting on Monday, March 8.
The reduction includes a 10 percent cut to the yearly stipend of $2,000 given to each board member and a reduction from $112 to $100 for each special meeting attended by a member.
The new figures are effective April 1.
"I think this is important as we move forward. We are going to have a lot of employees, a lot of staffing positions that will be affected at some point during this $2 million reduction," Patrick said.
"I think it's imperative that we begin here with the board. I think it sends a great message to all of our staff and stakeholders that we're not above those cuts as well."
Among the seven board members, the corporation will save $1,484 each year.
