Senate, House hopefuls to debate in March 26 Huntington TEA Party event

Candidates seeking their parties' nominations to the United States Senate and House of Representatives will take part in a debate on Friday, March 26, sponsored by the Huntington TEA Party.

Senate candidates who have agreed to participate are Richard Behney, John Hostettler, Don Bates Jr. and Marlin Stutzman. All are seeking the Republican nomination to the seat being vacated by Evan Bayh.

Six candidates seeking the Republican nomination as fifth district representative - Andy Lyons, Mike Murphy, Brose McVey, Luke Messer, Dr. John McGoff and Ann Adcook - are scheduled to appear.

Incumbent Republican Dan Burton declined the invitation, citing legislative duties in Washington, DC.

Dr. Nasser Hanna, who is seeking the Democrat nomination as fifth district representative, will also be in attendance. Fellow Democrat candidate Tim Crawford did not respond to the group's invitation.

Those attending can submit questions for the candidates prior to the beginning of the debate. A straw poll will be held after the event.

The debate will be held at Awakening Church, 251 Hauenstein Rd. in Huntington.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. The debate begins at 7:20 p.m. and will conclude at 9:30 p.m.

Vendors and candidates will set up informational tables at the church.

The TEA Party plans to sponsor a debate featuring state candidates on April 16 and a local candidate debate on April 30.
