Cheryl Schenkel has announced that she is a candidate for the Republican nomination as Huntington County Recorder.
Schenkel has served as chief deputy in the recorder's office since 2005, performing the duties of the recorder in her absence. That experience, she says has given her the training and experience she would need to serve as recorder.
Schenkel also worked in the Huntington County Auditor's office for two years and prior to that, worked for 6-1/2 years at Jones Abstract and Title Company.
With the title company, she says, she worked closely with the recorder's office, attorneys, real estate companies and banks.
The recorder, she says, is responsible for tracking ownership of all property in the county, safeguarding records dating back to the 1800s.
Schenkel is a lifelong Huntington County resident. She and her husband of 30 years, Roger Schenkel, are the parents of a son, Travis, and have two grandchildren. She attends Union Church.
