Leonard to run for a third term

Incumbent Dan Leonard, of Huntington, has announced that he will seek a third term as Indiana state representative from the 50th District.

Leonard will seek the Republican nomination in the May primary.

Leonard, owner of South Side Furniture, in Huntington, is completing his eighth year in the Indiana General Assembly.

Leonard was raised in Huntington County and attended Lancaster Township, Bippus Junior High and Clear Creek Township schools before graduating from Huntington High School.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Purdue University in 1971.

Leonard worked at Anderson Mattress Company as a factory representative selling Spring Air bedding prior to buying the furniture store in 1978.

In addition to being a business owner for 32 years, Leonard has been involved in the community as president of the South Side Business Association for two years, chairman of the board of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce, member of the Lime City Economic Development Corporation, board member of the Salvation Army and Junior Achievement and was active in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

He is a member of Amity Lodge 483 F&AM, and served as state president of the Masonic fraternity in 1991.
He is also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 837 and Indiana Zeta chapter of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
Leonard and his wife of 39 years, Lydia, have two children.

His son, David, is in the family businesses, and his daughter, Julia, is an engineer in Glasgow, KY.
