School officials reminding parents to get children registered for year

In just a few short weeks, Huntington Coun-ty’s school children will be back on the buses headed to their classrooms.

The first day of school for students is Aug. 9, and the Huntington County Community School Corporation is asking parents and guardians to get their children registered now for the 2017-18 school year.

Registration can be done anytime online or in person at the child’s school on July 26 or July 27.

All students must be registered, including those who have previously attended a Huntington County Community Sch-ool Corporation school.

Parents can register their students online at ps.hccsc.k12.in.us/public/home.html. Parents will need to have their student’s PowerSchool ID and password or create an account to access the registration site.

The registration system does not work well on cell phones, school administrators say. Call 356-7812 or email chuffman@hccsc .k12.in.us for assistance.

Students may also be registered in person at their individual schools. Student registration sessions will be held at each school on Wednesday, July 26, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Thursday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Parents can also sign up for the HCCSC messaging service. The corporation uses a text messaging system through School Messenger for employees, parents and guardians.

Recipients of the messages must be listed in PowerSchool as an employee, parent or guardian and have a cell phone number associated with that information.

Anyone who is not receiving text messages should send a text message to 67587 and the word “Yes” in the message.

Messages will be sent to announce school delays, cancellations, unscheduled early releases and emergency notifications. Participants are able to opt out at any time  by texting the word “STOP.”

Call 356-7812 or e-mail chuffman@hccsc.k12.in.us for more information.

Back to School nights are planned at each school, giving parents an opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and ask any questions they may have.
