Arizona campus pushes HU to largest enrollment

Huntington University is reporting its largest-ever enrollment, thanks to the addition of a campus in Peoria, AZ.

HU has 1,321 students enrolled for the fall semester of 2017, a figure that includes 1,234 students in various programs based in Huntington and 87 students in its Center for Digital Media Arts in Peoria, AZ.

The total enrollment for this fall is up 21 students from 2016 and is the largest enrollment in the university’s 120-year history, HU officials say. It includes 266 new enrollments, a 9 percent increase from the previous year.

The 1,234 students at the main campus in Huntington include 913 traditional undergraduates, 79 adults enrolled in professional programs and 242 graduate students.

The student body includes 131 ethnic minorities from the United States, who make up 12 percent of the student population, and 47 international students representing 24 countries.

The digital media arts program in Arizona is one of three new programs launched by the university over three years. It opened in the fall of 2016.

The Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies was launched in 2015, and HU now has 39 declared agriculture majors.

HU’s doctorate of occupational therapy program opened in 2014 and this year has an enrollment of 100 doctoral candidates.

The university has also seen a 20 percent increase in campus visits over the past year, HU President Dr. Sherilyn Emberton says.
