A thrift shop operated by a local church has moved from Columbia City to Huntington.

The New Life Ministries Thrift Store opened Oct. 10 at 61 W. State St., across from the LaFontaine Center, and will celebrate its grand opening on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21. The grand opening celebration will include food and drinks, prizes and sales.

The thrift store offers clothing, furniture, toys games, children’s clothing and shoes, holiday items and more. Donations of items in good condition are accepted and can be dropped off anytime the store is open, says thrift store staff member Susan Wieczorek.

“We’re looking to do a lot more than just sell stuff,” Wieczorek says. The store will give New Life Ministries one more way to reach out to the community, she says.

Proceeds from the thrift store will support New Life Ministries programs including the downtown meal ministry and a women’s shelter, as well as a women’s and children’s shelter now under construction and a men’s shelter that’s in the planning stages.

The thrift store operated in Columbia City, where New Life Ministries also has a church, for almost two years before moving to Huntington.

New Life Ministries Thrift Store hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
