Crop workshops offer dicamba herbicides application training

Crop grower workshops are set for Friday, Feb. 16, in Huntington and Fort Wayne.

The sessions are at the First Merchants Bank Heritage Hall at the Huntington County Fairgrounds, and at the Allen County Extension Office, located at 4001 Crescent Ave. in Fort Wayne.

The sessions will include state-required training for commercial and private applicators working with the new dicamba herbicide products of Engenia, FeXapan and Xtendimax. A second topic is the Indiana Department of Transportation rules and other laws involving trucks, tractors, trailers and implements of agriculture.

Fred Whitford, clinical engagement professor, Purdue Pesticide Programs, will present the topic of transportation laws. Ed Farris, Purdue Extension Educator in Huntington County, and James Wolff, Purdue Extension Educator in Allen County, will provide the dicamba product training. Light refreshments will be served at each location.

The Huntington County program will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Reservations should be made by Feb. 14, to 358-4826 or e-mail emfarris@purdue.edu.

Note that seating is limited at this location.

These workshops are approved Indiana Private Applicator Recertification Programs.

A fee is required for those who wish to obtain recertification credit for attending the program.

Attendees who wish to obtain credit are reminded to bring their Indiana Private Pesticide Applicator license number with them. Note that the workshops have also been approved for commercial applicator credits.
