Huntington North FFA chapter plans activities for FFA week

Huntington North High School Future Farmers of America chapter has planned several activities to celebrate National FFA week, Feb. 17 to Feb. 24, focusing on a passion for agriculture.

This FFA Week embraces more than 90 years of FFA traditions while looking forward to the organization’s future. More than 653,000 members will participate in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels.

Designated a national week in 1947, the week of George Washington’s birthday, National FFA Week runs from Saturday to Saturday and gives FFA members an opportunity to educate the public about agriculture. During the week, chapters conduct a variety of activities to help others in their school and community learn about FFA and agricultural education.

The HNHS chapter will celebrate the week by participating in the following activities, starting with dress up days, inviting the whole school to participate:

• Monday – Twin Day.

• Tuesday – Disney and Superhero Day.

• Wednesday – Decade Day.

• Thursday – USA Day.

• Friday – FFA Day and Hat Day for $1 to benefit ALS Research.

Tuesday after school the chapter will host a Farmer’s Olympics for FFA members. Students will compete in events such as a milking contest, hay bale toss and pie eating contest to claim the top prize.

Friday morning there will be an FFA member breakfast before school.

Through agricultural and hands-on learning, FFA members are preparing for 255 unique career opportunities in the food, fiber and natural resources industry. National FFA Week is sponsored by Tractor Supply Company.

The National FFA organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 649,355 student members who belong to one of 7,859 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin islands. The organization is also supported by 225,891 alumni members in 1,934 alumni chapters throughout the U.S.
