Members of the Huntington North High School Student Council remembered a former classmate by making a donation to help build a park in his honor.

Drake Goetz died Nov. 20, 2017, in an ATV accident. His family is creating the Drake Goetz Memorial Park in his honor. Each year the student council donates the proceeds from the carnation sales to help a family in the county. This year, the council decided to dedicate the proceeds from their Valentine’s Week carnation sales, $548, to help purchase equipment to make the park become a reality. They presented a check to Shelli Goetz, Drake’s mother, Friday, April 27, in the high school media center.

The park, which is located on the northwest corner of CR350E and CR400N, will be an inclusive playground with a mission to provide a place where faith, family and friendships can grow, as the community comes together to participate in sports, play and leisure.

Features include a pavilion and walking paths, as well as ADA-friendly playground equipment, according to members of the Goetz family.
