Second Saturday to focus on night sky

Gaze at stars through a telescope and learn about the night sky at Salamonie Lake’s Second Saturday program on Aug. 11.

The program runs from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and will be hosted by astronomy enthusiasts Steve and Debbie Russell, who will offer a “Starry Night Telescope Clinic.” Participants should meet at Salamonie Interpretive Center.

The event fulfills requirements for the Bear Scouts merit badge Finding the Big Dipper, the North Star and the Little Dipper.

Second Saturday is a monthly educational series of programs at Salamonie Lake. A nominal fee per participant is payable day of the event. Standard gate fees are waived for Second Saturday participants.

Those families choosing to camp can make reservations at Camp.IN.gov. Overnight camping fees are not included in the Second Saturday program fee.

Salamonie Interpretive Center is located at Salamonie Lake, 3691 New Holland Rd., Andrews.
