New twist on genealogy data set for Aug. 20 at Huntington library branch

A presentation entitled “Rubik’s Cube Genealogy: A New Twist on Your Old Data” aims to share research knowledge with everyone and will take place Monday, Aug. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Huntington City-Township Public Library’s Indiana Room.

Presented by Elissa Powell, CG, CGL, a professional genealogist and researcher, it will demonstrate a variety of tricks used in advanced levels of research and ways to look at what data genealogy researchers have from different angles.

Powell is a Pennsylvania researcher and co-director of the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP), past-president of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, an instructor for the Virtual Institute of Genealogical Research (VIGR), a SLIG instructor and coordinator of the IGHR “Professional Genealogy” course. She was an instructor and creator of part of Boston University’s Genealogical Research Certificate course. She won the 2017 Association of Professional Genealogists Professional Achievement Award.

The presentation can shed new light on genealogy research that may have hit a wall, in which the data doesn’t quite fit together or leads on new information have run dry.

The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend.

The Huntington City-Township Public Library is located at 255 W. Park Drive, Huntington.
