Re-enactors workshop Sept. 11, 13 locally

Anyone interested in learning more about historical re-enacting or interpretation is invited to attend a free two-day workshop in Huntington.

“How to Begin Historical Re-enacting and Living History Portrayal” will be offered Sept. 11 and 13, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each evening, at the Forks of the Wabash Historic Park.

Experienced re-enactors and interpreters will lead the workshops.

During the first evening, presenters will address the pioneer and Civil War eras, touching on military, civilian and Native American roles. They will also explain how to get started with costuming and personal effects.

The second session will focus on festivals and permanent sites that welcome historical re-enactors and interpreters, time frames for those events and contact information. Presenters will also explain where to find information and mentors to help shape authentic and educational re-enactment and interpretation.

Each evening will end with a question-and-answer session.

While the workshop is free, reservations are requested and can be made by calling 356-1903 or emailing info@forksofthe wabash.org.

The workshop is sponsored by the Historic Forks of the Wabash and the Forks of the Wabash Pioneer Festival.

The Forks of the Wabash Historic Park is at 3011 W. Park Drive, at the intersection of Ind-9 and U.S.-24, Huntington.
