Application deadline Oct. 31 for house internship

College students and recent graduates seeking an internship with the Indiana House of Representatives must submit their applications before the Oct. 31 deadline, according to State Rep. Dan Leonard (R-Huntington).

House internships are paid positions during the legislative session lasting from January through April. Leonard said while employed full time at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, interns can develop valuable skills while working one-on-one with state legislators and staff.

“With practical experience from internships like this one, it’s more likely a recent graduate will be prepared to begin their career,” Leonard said. “In some cases, interns have the opportunity to apply for a full-time position on our legislative team. During the internship, they’re able to develop job-specific skills needed for future positions in the public or private sectors.”

College sophomores, juniors and seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates of all majors are eligible to apply. Internship positions are available in a variety of departments including legislative, communications and media relations, policy or fiscal policy.

When applying, students must also submit an official transcript, resume and two letters of recommendation.
