Invasive species primer at Salamonie Aug. 17

An Invasive Species Management Primer will be held Aug. 17 and 24. Justin Emmons, IDNR’s Salamonie Lake wildlife specialist, will present an informative meeting on Aug. 17, at 10 a.m., at Salamonie Interpretive Center, located at Salamonie Lost Bridge West SRA.

Emmons will identify several invasive plant species, and discuss prioritized management and management techniques. The group will also participate in a field observation, and a question and answer session. Those who attend should plan to bring a brown bag lunch.

Around 2 p.m., participants will have an opportunity to travel to and view a master gardener’s Wabash County native wildflower plot.
On Aug. 24, at 9 a.m. Wabash County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will host an invasive species workday at the Wabash County Farm, 1323 Manchester Ave., Wabash as part of the Invasive Species Management Primer.

Presenters will be Tom Crowe with Crowe Forest Management LLC, and Adam Jones with the Natural Recourse Conservation Service (NRCS). They will cover a short invasive species identification, resources of local agency people to contact, and NRCS technical and financial cost-share programs.

The meetings are free and open to the public.
