Psi Otes award more than $4,000 in scholarships

Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Phi Chapter, Huntington, has awarded nine scholarships totaling $4,100 for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year.

The following are Psi Iota Xi's memorial scholarship recipients:

Bethany Stoffel is the recipient of the $1,000 Anne Pfister Memorial Scholarship. The award is given to a female majoring in business in memory of Anne Pfister to honor her role in the Huntington Business community.

Stoffel will be a junior at Purdue University, majoring in accounting. She is the daughter of Debbie and Michael Stoffel of Huntington.

Amanda Satchwill received the $600 Marjorie B. Bayless Memorial Scholarship, which honors the years Ms. Bayless spent as a speech and hearing therapist in the Huntington schools.

Satchwill will be a junior at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, majoring in occupational therapy with a specialty in sensory processing to work with autistic children. She is the daughter of Lori and Jim Satchwill of Huntington.

Emily Frankle was awarded the $400 Marjorie B. Bayless Memorial Scholarship.

Frankle will be a senior at Huntington University, majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Joel Frankle of Huntington.

Sarah Stine is the recipient of the $350 Mildred Briggs Memorial Scholarship for Education.

Stine will be a senior art education major at Huntington University. She is the daughter of Kay and Rodney Stine of Huntington.

Five local students have received general scholarships from Psi Iota Xi:

Heidi Blocker will be a freshman at Butler University, and she plans to major in a medical field. Blocker is the daughter of Beth and David Blocker of Huntington.

Justin Dolby plans to attend Ball State University next year to major in criminal justice. Dolby is the son of Tricia and Tim Dolby of Huntington.

Samantha Dyer will attend Ball State University next year to study architecture. Dyer is the daughter of Gary Dyer and Cindy Hedrick of Huntington.

JoBeth Minniear will be a senior next year at Iowa State University, majoring in meteorology. Minniear is the daughter of Vicki and Fred Minniear of Huntington.

Kelly Myers, who will be a freshman at Ball State University majoring in radiology technology. Myers is the daughter of Barbara and Terry Myers of Andrews.

Psi Iota Xi awards scholarships annually from fundraisers throughout the year, including the Pioneer Festival and an annual cheeseball fundraiser.
