J. Don Killen was recently recognized for his 75th year in Freemasonry during the August meeting of the Mt. Etna Masonic Lodge.

Killen joined the Mt. Etna Masonic Lodge in 1944, where he received his three degrees to become a Master Mason. Past Grand Master James Barkdull, representing the Indiana Grand Lodge of Freemasons, presented Killen with a certificate and lapel pin to commemorate the event.

Killen, who is 96, was born and raised in Polk Township and was a longtime farmer. In addition to his community involvement, he was also the longtime sexton of the Mt. Etna Community Cemetery.

Present at the award ceremony was Killen’s son, Paul Killen, who placed the lapel pin on his father. Also present were Paul Killen’s sons, Andrew Killen and Riley Killen, both of whom became Masons at the Mt. Etna Lodge earlier this year.
