Registration deadline for primary is May 4

The deadline to register to vote in the primary election in June is approaching on Monday, May 4.

To vote, an individual must satisfy the following criteria:

• Be a United States citizen and Indiana resident.

• Be at least 18 years old on or before the general election.

• Not currently incarcerated after being convicted of a crime.

• Need to have lived in the precinct where intending to vote for at least 30 days prior to the election.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals are encouraged to register to vote online at Individuals with a valid Indiana driver’s license or Indiana state-issued identification card will be able to use this website to submit a new voter registration application or to update an existing voter registration record.

In addition to registering to vote, gives users with the ability to validate their voter registration status, find their polling place location, look into their provisional ballot status information, find county contact information and determine “Who’s on My Ballot?” for an upcoming election.

The COVID-19 outbreak has also resulted in voters being encouraged to cast their ballots for the primary election through the mail.

Voters can request a mail-in absentee ballot by filling out an application. To obtain an application, visit tions/2402.htm, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “ABS-MAIL: Application for Absentee Ballot by Mail Only.” Clicking on that heading will download an application.

Voters can also call the Huntington County clerk’s office at 358-4820 and request that an application be mailed to them.
Completed applications can be emailed to yvette.runkle@hunting; faxed to 358-4880; or mailed to Huntington County Election Board, PO Box 228, Huntington, IN 46750.

Once an application has been approved, the voter will be sent a ballot. The deadline to submit an application is May 21.

Early voting begins on Tuesday, May 5. The primary election is June 2.
