Roanoke Library reading program is underway

The Roanoke Public Library started its seven-week summer reading program on June 8. This year’s theme is “Step into Your Fantasy,” and the program  is open to youth of all ages. Pictured are youth from the afternoon reading session.

The Roanoke Public Library started its seven-week summer reading program, "Step into Your Fantasy," on June 8.

The program will continue on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. for younger children and 2 p.m. for older children, ending on July 20 with the showing of the movie "Back to the Future."

The movie is rated "PG" and will be shown at 9:30 a.m. only.

The program will include reading, crafts and other activities. All children will receive a state puzzle book for participating in the program.

Prizes include:
Preschool and under - Top Reader, "Random House Children's Treasury of Fairy Tales, Nursery Rhymes and Nonsense Verse."

Starting Kindergarten to fourth grade - Top Reader, "Scooby-Doo's Greatest Mysteries" movie.

Fifth grade and up - Top Reader, "Spider Man 2" movie; for reading four books, TinCaps ticket; for reading six books, Indiana Beach ticket; and for reading 10 books, Applebee's free kid's meal.
