Extension service to again sponsor Ag Day for third-graders

The Huntington County Purdue Cooperative Extension Service will again sponsor Ag Day on March 24 at Hier's Park for all third grade students in Huntington County.

Students will get to see several animals, but the emphasis will be on learning about the importance of agriculture in their lives.

Huntington County's Ag Day involves 14 stations of education. Over a period of two hours, 473 third grade students will move through stations where the presenters will talk about beef, chicken, corn, dairy, goats, horses, popcorn, sheep, soybeans and swine. They will also get a brief history of farm machinery and learn a little about conservation and handling food safely.

To reinforce the lessons of Ag Day, each student will also receive an activity book of additional information and many other pieces of educational materials supplied by numerous donors, local, state and national.

The event is a cooperative effort of the Huntington County Extension Office and more than 40 volunteers with professional experience in their areas.

The public is invited to stop by.

Home educators with third grade students can register their students to attend by calling the Extension service at 358-4826.
