Warren TC consents to rezoning

Mike and Stacy Haggerty presented plans to construct an automatic carwash in Warren at the Warren Town Council meeting on Monday, May 10.

Along with the carwash, they also want to have a small laundromat on the side of the carwash building and other small features like vacuums.

“I believe it would be a great addition to Warren,” Mike said.

The couple is in the process of buying one property for the project, but is requesting to buy a second property that is owned by the town. Both properties would need rezoned because they are currently residential properties.

The council gave their consent for the Haggertys to move forward with the rezoning process. If it is approved, the council will discuss sale of the property.

In department reports, Clerk-Treasurer Marilyn Morrison presented contracts from McQuire Iron, Inc. and James S. Jackson Co., LLC for approval from the council. Both contracts are in regards to the water project. The council approved unanimously.

Morrison also submitted a tentative construction schedule from the contractors as well as payment schedules and procedures for the water grant/loan. A report of the payments will be submitted monthly to the council for review.

Fire Chief Lee Poulson reported that the department received the radios and pagers from the county grant. In regards to their previous radios, Poulson asked the council if he could give them to Van Buren or Liberty Center if they were needed. The council approved Poulson’s request if he got township approval.

Poulson also reported that the fire department is having their golf outing on Saturday, May 29.
Utilities Operations Manager Brian Sills submitted a quote in the amount of $17,523.94 for the replacement of the town’s electric utility two capacitor banks, which are used to control the distribution of power throughout the town. The quote to install them was $4,800. The council approved.

Sills also submitted quotes from EVAPAR and MacAllister for a generator maintenance three-year plan. The council approved the quote from EVAPAR.

In other business:

• Jessica Beal of the Huntington County Department of Community Development confirmed the owners of the property at 218 W. 3rd St., who were present at the meeting, would demolish the structure on said property per the order of enforcement.

The council agreed that the process should be complete by the town council meeting on Monday, July 26.
