Roanoke Auxiliary announces scholarship winner

During the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 160 meeting on July 5 at the American Legion Post in Roanoke, President Barb Carroll introduced the Roanoke Auxiliary Scholarship winner Ryleigh Alles.

Alles is a 2022 graduate of Homestead High School. She plans to attend St. Mary’s College to study mathematics before continuing to Notre Dame to study engineering. She hopes to have a career in civil engineering.

Alles is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a three-year Junior member before moving up to senior status at age 18.

Her entire family is involved in the American Legion; her great-uncle, Dale Alles, was a charter member of the American Legion Post 160, her grandfather, Rich Konkling, is the Commander of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL), her grandmother, Kitty Konkling is the Auxiliary treasurer, her father, Jamison, is a member of the SAL, and her mother, Carrie, is a member of the Auxiliary. Alles was eligible to join under her great-grandfather Paul Morgan.
