Stephan to be guest speaker at next HS meeting

Dean Stephan, former teacher, coach and principal at Lincoln School, will discuss community sports of the late 1940s and 1950s.

Stephan's presentation will be during the Sept. 21 meeting of the Huntington County Historical Society.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the Huntington County Historical Museum, 315 Court St.
Stephan will focus on Horace Mann, Lincoln, Central and Riley schools.

Friends, students and former players are invited to attend and share their stories as well.

Stephan attended Horace Mann School from kindergarten through eighth grade (1932 to 1942).

He coached at Lincoln in 1950-51 and from 1953 to 1962, and served as the school's principal from 1962 to 1990.
He also coached fifth and sixth grade basketball at Horace Mann from 1990 to 1996.

Light refreshments will be served at the end of the meeting.

The next special meeting will be held on Nov. 16 and will feature Bill Shaneyfelt's "Memories of the Caswell-Runyan Fire."
