Andrews council places deputy on administrative leave
Friday, September 24, 2010 11:30 AM
Lon Whitted has been placed on administrative leave from his job as Andrews deputy marshal until a criminal charge filed against him is resolved.
The Andrews Town Council took the action in a special meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 22, voting to place Whitted on leave without pay. Council members said they would not take any further action until the case is resolved in court.
A misdemeanor charge of battery resulting on bodily injury was filed against Whitted on Sept. 2 following a probable cause hearing in Huntington Superior Court. Whitted remains free on a $7,000 bond and is being represented by attorney Donald J. Swanson.
A pretrial conference is scheduled for Oct. 11.
Whitted has not entered a plea.
