Adkinson earns second lieutenant rank

United States Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Jesse D. Adkinson was commissioned as a second lieutenant at Officer Candidate School Training Command Quantico, VA, on March 20.

Adkinson graduated with the Company Award for highest overall grade point average, the Phil Yeckel Award for the highest composite average, the Major Harry Elms Award for the highest overall average for an officer candidate class graduate with prior enlisted service and the Marine Federal Credit Union Award for the candidate with the highest total academic average.

Adkinson was selected Commander of Troops for the flight field parade.

Capt. Christopher Stephenson administered the oath of office and Gunnery Sgt. Rodney Guthrie gave the first salute. Both are close friends of Adkinson.

Adkinson has served the USMC for 11 years as an air traffic controller and ATC instructor. He has toured Japan, Kuwait and three times in Iraq.

While in full-time service, Adkinson has graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University of Florida earning a bachelor of science degree in professional aeronautics.

Attending the commissioning ceremony at Quatico, VA, were his wife Nicole Adkinson, of Pensacola Air Station, FL; stepfather and mother Kris and Charlotte Helvie, of Huntington; stepfather-in-law and mother-in-law Charlie and Lisa Shermoen, of Tucson, AZ; Capt. Christopher and Micki Stephenson and Gunnery Sgt. Rodney Guthrie, of Pensacola Air Station, FL.
