Expo to focus on Seniors for fifth year

The Huntington County Council on Aging announces the fifth annual Huntington County Senior Citizens' Exposition will be held Thursday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Merillat Physical Education and Recreation Center on the Huntington University campus.

The free event will bring together businesses and services geared for the Senior population in 90 booths, most of which are already filled, organizers note.

Last year approximately 1,300 visitors attended the event.

Council officials note that since May is National Older Americans Month, it is the appropriate time to offer the Senior population, anal current and future care-givers, an opportunity to learn about products and services which are critical to lifelong wellness. There will be exhibitors offering services such as financial planning, insurance consulting, funeral and cemetery planning, healthcare, wellness centers and retirement communities.

Companies that offer products and equipment that makes life easier for the Senior population will also be on hand to explain their services and products, officials note.

The event features a free breakfast, sponsored this year by Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rolling Meadows Health Care Center, Caring Hands Health and Rehabilitation Center, Colonial Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center, Colonial Oaks Retirement Community, Catered Living LLC and New Hope Hospice.

Miller's Merry Manor will be sponsoring a free lunch.

Tipton House Assisted Living and Oakbrook Village will provide free morning and afternoon snacks.

This year organizers are planning to have a second serving line to accommodate the large crowd that is expected.

Several of the exhibitors will have free gifts and handouts. Numerous local business have donated more than 100 door prizes which will be announced throughout the event.

There will also be a "Passport Program" that qualifies participants for an additional drawing of $50 gift certificates.

Monte Sieberns will again be the announcer for the event.

The entertainment program is being arranged and will be announced later.
