Roanoke has a new full-time primary care center, as Dr. Amy Welker opened her new practice in the Roanoke Professional Center with Parkview Physicians Group on Monday, Dec. 13.
Welker, a Roanoke resident herself, moved from a larger practice in Fort Wayne to Roanoke, and will be at the office full-time beginning in March.
Until then, the office will be staffed five days per week, and duties will be shared between Welker, Dr. Rowena Yu-Mendador from Parkview FirstCare in Huntington and Dr. Kevin Stamm, OB/GYN, also based in Huntington.
Stamm is available on Friday afternoons, and will continue to be at the office after Welker completely moves her practice to Roanoke.
"I've lived in Roanoke since I've been married," Welker says. "When the opportunity came up, it made life as a working mom easier. I like working in a smaller town."
The practice offers care for all ages, focusing on preventative medicine. Available services include checkups and complete physicals, EKGs, procedures such as skin lesion removals and OB/GYN procedures.
Same-day appointments are accepted, especially those with acute symptoms, and Welker will also be able to accept new patients.
"I try to do a good job of getting people in when they're sick," Welker says.
The Roanoke office is located in the Roanoke Professional Center off U.S.-24, 577 Geiger Drive, Suite C. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and can be reached by phone at 672-5950, or by fax at 672-0939.
