Fifteen complete studies at Leadership Academy

Fifteen local residents graduated from the 2009 Huntington County Leadership Academy during a lunchtime ceremony held Wednesday, May 6, at the Habecker Dining Commons at Huntington University.

Graduates are Heather Bradin, of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC; Ryan Douglas, of Bendix; Ed Farris, of Purdue Extension - Huntington County; Troy Hostetler, of Huntington County Highway Department; Kelly Lyons, of Our Sunday Visitor; Cambria Menendez, of Hiner Transport; Josh Miller, of the Boys and Girls Club of Huntington County; Monique Miller, of Wells Fargo Bank; Chris Nothhard, of Bendix; and Steve Pozezanac, of Huntington University.

Also, Gary Randle, of Parkview Huntington Hospital; Kelly Renier, of Huntington County Community School Corporation; Michael Rohler, of the Huntington County Chapter of the American Red Cross; Doug Selig, of Parkview Huntington Hospital; and Amanda VanRosendale, of the Boys and Girls Club of Huntington County and Local Anti-Drug Coalition Efforts.

The students met every other Wednesday from January to May. Topics covered during the 10 classes were personality styles, public speaking skills, learning and motivational styles, 21st Century leadership qualities, servant leadership qualities, visionary techniques and mission statements.

The students were also divided into groups and had to plan, coordinate and manage panel discussions and create and complete a project that would benefit the community.

The facilitators for the 2009 academy were Ed Vessels and Dr. Rick Upchurch.
