Roanoke resident skies in National Competition

Kris Scherer, Roanoke resident and avid skier, participated in a National Ski competition in Columbus, Ohio.  Scherer represented Roanoke and the Lucky Racer organization in memory of her father, Doug Lueke also referred to as “Lucky”. The event took place on Sept. 4, 2022.

Scherer is an experienced-avid skier who has participated in several events. In 2002 and 2016 she placed 2nd at NASTAR Nationals, however her racing began as an Ohio Valley Ski Council Junior Ski and USSA Racer.

This athlete has been committed to her sport, but also devoted to the Lucky Racer Junior Ski Racing Schlarship. Lucky Racer is a junior ski racing scholarship established in honor of Doug Lueke, her father and friend to many. Lueke (Lucky) had a passion for snow skiing that was contagious as was his devotion to helping others, on and off the slopes.

Prior to doug’s passing, his heartfelt desire, was to establish a scholarship for aspiring junior skiers who may need an extra incentive and/or an affordable opportunity to ski race. This desire led to the in-place scholarship.

Further information about the scholarship and results of Scherer’s competition will be published in a future editon of the tab.
