The sidewalks were impassable, due to the enthusiasm of the attendees sitting, standing and waving American flags during the 68th Annual Roanoke Fall Festival Parade. Patriotism was at its peak, as the 619 individuals, 60 vehicles, and six floats provided the visual incarnation of this year’s parade theme “America, the Beautiful,” sponsored by the American Legion Post 160. The parade began with a check for $2,500 being presented to the Roanoke Police Department’s K-9 Unit from the Roanoke Sons of American Legion. The check was presented for the newest officer of the K-9 Unit, Doc. The Roanoke Police Department led the way for the color-guard as the American flag was honored, the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken, and the National Anthem was played. The Roanoke’s parade attendee’s support and patriotism were evident, as hearts were covered, hats were removed, and all eyes watched the colors go by. As the 2022 Roanoke queen and the queen’s court smiled and waved toward onlookers, the parade preceded with many participants. Parade entries included Roanoke Elementary School, Huntington North’s Marching Vikes, Riverview Middle School Raider Band, Crestview Middle School, and Huntington University. This year’s Roanoke Fall Festival Parade winners were: Seminary Church, Commander’s Trophy; 1936 John Deer Tractor, Best Parade Themed 1st Place; Zion Church, Best Parade Themed 2nd Place; Post 160 Junior Auxiliary, Youth & Children 1st Place; Crestview Middle School, Youth & Children 2nd Place; Roanoke Police Dept., Emergency Responders 1st Place; Roanoke Volunteer Fire Dept., Emergency Responders 2nd Place; Willie’s Jeep, Antique Vehicle 1st Place; 1961 Cub Cadet - Brooks Porter, Antique Vehicle 2nd Place; Fort Wayne Vet Club, Motorized Vehicle 1st Place; Roanoke Golf Carts, Motorized Vehicle 2nd Place; and Dennis Grain, Agriculture 1st Place; God Bless the American Farmer, Agriculture 2nd Place.
