The Huntington North Varsity Singers will host their 26th annual Pomp and Plenty gala, with the theme of "Let's Go to the Movies," on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21, at Huntington North High School.

The Huntington North jazz band will begin each of the three shows with a performance.

On Saturday, dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The menu includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, tossed salad, homemade yeast rolls, apple a la mode and a beverage.

John Wenning, show choir director, says it is a sit-down meal with choir members, parents and volunteers serving as waitresses and waiters.

Following the dinner, attendees will be escorted from the cafeteria to the auditorium, which will be decorated like a movie theater, to view the show.

On Sunday, the show is offered twice without a dinner, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The show includes group numbers and solos of many movies and musicals over the decades. Among the dozens of songs being performed will include:

• "Singin' in the Rain," from the movie of the same name, released in 1952.

• "Pure Imagination," from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, " released in 1971.

• "Time of My Life," from "Dirty Dancing," released in 1987.

• "My Heart Will Go On," from "Titanic," released in 1997.

• "I'm a Believer," from "Shrek," released in 2001.
Tickets may be purchased at the main office at HNHS from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. by cash or check, as well as by credit cards, which Wenning says is new this year.

Tickets may also be reserved in advance by calling 437-5184, and those can be picked up and paid for at the door.

Any Varsity Singer student, parent or jazz band member is also selling tickets.

Wenning says this is the show choir's biggest fund-raiser of the year. The funds are used to pay expenses such as choreography, accompanist, costumes, backdrops, equipment and competition trips.

He says he thinks everyone will find something to enjoy at this year's show.

This year's group includes 41 singers and dancers, 14 band members and 10 stage crew workers.
