Huntington University musical will open Nov. 8 on Merillat stage

The Huntington University Theatre Company will present "Urinetown: The Musical" Nov. 8-17.

The story takes place after a catastrophic drought, when all private toilets are outlawed in order to preserve water. A single corporation maintains a monopoly over all public amenities, forcing the destitute masses to pay large fees to carry out their basic needs. The leader of a revolution against the corporation unknowingly falls in love with the daughter of the company's owner.

Jay Duffer, assistant director of theater arts at HU, will direct. He calls the show "satire at its finest with a great sense of whimsical humor."

Local students appearing in the play are senior Lindsey Siewert, as Penelope Pennywise, and junior Jessica Wagel, as Little Sally. Both are Huntington residents and are majoring in theater performance at HU.

Performances are Nov. 8, 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m., with matinee performances on Nov. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. All performances are in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

For reservations, call the MCA Box Office at 359-4261 Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Available tickets will be sold at the door.
