In addition, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Riverview Middle School art teacher Christine Nicholson will host "Make-it, Take-it." Young artists will be adding hand tracings to a starry night collage and a 100-year celebration of the Huntington YMCA as well as creating bookmarks recognizing both works. This is FREE and open to artists of all ages.
Also, Crestview Middle School art teacher Stefanie Gaza's seventh grade students collaborated to make a senbazuru, or 1,000 origami cranes hung from strings.
This Japanese legend states that whoever folds 1,000 paper cranes will be granted a wish. The seventh grade class's senbazuru is dedicated to the lives that were lost at Sandy Hook Elementary. Their wish is for peace on Earth and healing for the families affected by this tragedy. Their work will be displayed throughout the day, and seventh grade students will be stationed at an origami crane table to help the public make their own paper cranes.
And, Huntington North students and art teacher, Teri Fuller-O'Brien, will be demonstrating ceramic throwing and glass bead making throughout the festival.
Former students of Jerry Wright, Huntington North art teacher, are invited to attend the event. Wright will retire from teaching at the end of this school year after completing 39 consecutive high school art shows at HNHS, 40 years teaching at the same art department, and 28 years as art department chairperson.
A concession stand, sponsored by the Crestview band department, will be open throughout the day. Donuts, coffee, hot dogs, candy and drinks will be available.
