Announce Americanism coloring contest winners

Roanoke American Legion Auxiliary Unit 160 recently announced the winners of its Americanism coloring contest for kindergarten through second grade students.

Austin Amick, Graci Shopoff and Allison Church were named winners of the contest.

Each student participating was given a picture of a decorated veteran holding an American flag. More than 80 students participated in the coloring program and every entry has been on display at Post 160 for the past month.

Each winner received a gift card and every participant got a patriotic bookmark.

The auxiliary unit also sponsored an Americanism essay contest. Four schools participated in writing an essay on "What Freedom I Enjoy the Most."

Winners were seventh-grader Katlin Carroll and Huntington North High School senior Susanna Vining. Their essays were sent to the state and national level contests.
