Local Kiwanis Club presents 3 scholarships

The Huntington Kiwanis Club has presented scholarships to Elizabeth Smith, Drew Schnitz and Zachary Shearer.

Smith received the Robert L. Baker Scholarship, named in honor of her grandfather. The daughter of Linda Smith, of Huntington, she plans to study art at Huntington University.

Smith has attended Kiwanis Key Leader camps, participated in Lady Eagles varsity basketball and was a Painting Club member. She has served on mission trips with her church youth group, volunteered at the Huntington City-Township Public Library and was an assistant coach with the Upward basketball program.

Schnitz received the Fred Winebrenner Memorial Scholarship. He is the son of Mike and Christine Schnitz, of Huntington, and plans to study engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Schnitz is a member of the National Honor Society and is in the top 25 of his class, played leadership roles on the football and baseball teams and participated in class council, Student Athletic Board and DECA. He is a 10-year 4-H member, Junior Rotarian, Campus Life student leader and a member of his church youth group.
The Herman Goodin Memorial Scholarship was presented to Shearer. He plans to study business administration at Ivy Tech and is the son of Gregory and Julie Shearer, of Huntington.

Shearer graduated from the Huntington County Youth Leadership Academy, was selected as a Junior Rotarian and is the owner of a pet service business. He was a member of FFA, a 10-year member of 4-H, a church youth group member and a team member of two mission trips. He has volunteered for the Pioneer Festival, New Life meal ministry and Kids Klub/VBS.
