Huntington's Beta Chi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International won several chapter and individual awards during the 2013 ESA Convention, held June 6 in Indianapolis.
Those attending the convention were Wendy Yaste, president; Carmen Oswalt, education director; and Pam and Jennifer Allmandinger, outgoing co-presidents. Jeni Allmandinger carried the chapter flag for the opening and closing ceremonies at the convention.
Oswalt hosted a convention celebration wrap-up dinner on June 10, with Yaste, Pam and Jeni Allmandinger, Sandy Allen, Susie Ray, Cindy Yeiter, Amy Fisher, Laura Zent and Joan Benson in attendance.
During the convention, Beta Chi Chapter tied for first place for the Chapter President's Award. The local chapter also received second place in Outstanding Chapter in the State.
Pam Allmandinger won the Member of the Year Award, receiving an engraved silver plaque and a silver tray traveling award.
Pam Allmandinger and daughter Jeni Allmandinger are the new Association of the Arts co-chairmen.
Jennifer Allmandinger received the True Believer Award for her help and assistance with a disabled child.
Pam Allmandinger also received the True Believer Award for providing meals at the Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House in Fort Wayne, providing meals for shut-ins, working with special needs individuals, teaching CPR and other activities with Epsilon Sigma Alpha, St. Jude Children's Hospital and any child in special need.
In the arts and crafts competition, Pam Allmandinger won second place for her cake in the kitchen talents category and Jennifer Allmandinger won second place for her floral arrangement.
Yeiter won first place for her bunny wreath in the holiday arts competition.
Oswalt won second and third places for the chapter scrapbook. She also received a service certificate as an Indiana ESA Foundation counselor.
The chapter won third place for the most philanthropic money donated on a percentage basis excluding St. Jude, Easter Seals, Disaster Fund and Camp Riley.
The chapter won the Distinguished Service Award for the spaghetti supper and live auction held on May 9. Pam Allmandinger and Benson received Honor Awards as chair and co-chair of the event, which raised funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The Indiana Award of Excellence was presented to Benson in recognition of the Lamp Award for reporting for the second year.
The chapter's next meeting will be held in September.
